Our largest event of the year was the “USS 2022 Career Night” hosted on April 4th, 2022. We invited panelists from various industrial and research fields to share their careers, introduce their companies and work opportunities, and provide pieces of advice to students who intend to pursue careers in statistics, data science, and computer science in the future. Some of our panelists included: Beatrice Baribeau, the Assistant Director in the Statistical Integration Division of Statistics Canada; Ryan Molden, the Software Development Engineer from Microsoft; Professor Paul Gustafson from the UBC Statistics Department. Students and panelists who attended our Career Night had the opportunity to physically meet and communicate with each other.

On October 29th, 2021, we hosted our event “Halloween Game Night” in which students had the opportunity to come dressed up in costumes and enjoyed an unforgettable night with our various activities. Pumpkin painting was one of our most popular activities. Pumpkins, paints, and brushes were provided, and students demonstrated their amazing artistic talent through pumpkin painting. Also, fun board games are a must to get everyone involved, communicate, and socialize. Finally, a well-decorated photo booth station was provided so that students preserved joyful memories with their friends and peers. Our “Halloween Game Night” attracted 70 students to engage and experienced a joyful and memorable Halloween.
